Dreams

13 09 2008

Since I don’t seem to have a lot to say, but I do have some very weird dreams, I am going to try to keep a record of them here.

Starting with last night.

I was on a train that crashed as it ran around the side of a hill. Some of the carriages buried themselves deep underground, some ran off the racks into a lake. On board the train we the band Muse who seemed to be in the carriages that went under ground. People were desperate to get information about what had happened to fellow passengers.

You see-  werid. No resolution, no meaning. Nothing.

and that’s a fairly bland one.

I’ll keep posting and if I wake up one day with no recollection of the dream, I’ll tell you about some of the weird ones from the past!

Unconventional Jobs

18 06 2008

Fed up of searching for jobs that don’t fit the usual boxes I’ve started a website to bring together the kinds of information that might help.

www.not-the-9to5.info

Have a look!

Job searches

11 05 2008

Why do internet job searches never offer a ‘not’ option?

I know I don’t want to work in a legal or accounts dept, and yet while I can positively choose them, there is apparently never an option to exclude them from my search, on any of the job websites I’ve ever looked at!

Confusion

14 02 2008

I was recently at an exhibition, and while walking round, viewing the items and reading the panels of information I also overheard other visitors talking about the things on view.

It struck me as extraordinary that things I understood to be quite straightforward baffled some people and things I took to mean one thing became translated to very different things by other people.

How is it that people from the same country, same town even, speaking the same language, can interpret a short passage, word or phrase in such radically different ways.

Is it any wonder people have difficulty communicating.

Communication breakdown

3 01 2008

Is it ever possible to communicate an idea or concept to another person with no risk of misinterpretation or is every piece of communication at risk of being warped by the recipient’s own personal agenda or expectations?

Right or wrong

10 07 2007

How do you decide when you are wrong about a person or situation?

Imagine you believe with everything you have that you are right, that you have rational justifications for everything you believe and that you have no direct evidence to the contrary. BUT everyone you know is of entirely the opposite opinion, and is quite happy to tell you so. When every time you try to defend your point of view there is someone ready to shoot it down, and even though you could respond you become so weary of trying to fight an apparently losing battle that you just give up trying.

How do you decide if you are right and everyone else is deceived, or if you need to get more realistic about the situation? How do know that you aren’t being fooled? How do you know you haven’t driven yourself insane wondering about it all the time?

Remember

28 06 2007

Touch, taste, smell, sound, sight.

These are the five senses according to generally accepted wisdom.

Some add proprioception (body awareness), pain and balance.

But what use are any of them without memory?

If you couldn’t  remember your family, your own face, how to communicate……how would you cope in the world? If you couldn’t remember what you were doing twenty seconds ago, how would you live your life? Would you remember to eat? Would you be in a constant state of surprise about the smallest things around you? Would you ever be able to form relationships? Would you understand yourself?

The universe

27 06 2007

I’m currently reading, and trying very hard to understand, In Search Of Shrodinger’s Cat, a history of quantum physics.
