Confusion

I was recently at an exhibition, and while walking round, viewing the items and reading the panels of information I also overheard other visitors talking about the things on view.

It struck me as extraordinary that things I understood to be quite straightforward baffled some people and things I took to mean one thing became translated to very different things by other people.

How is it that people from the same country, same town even, speaking the same language, can interpret a short passage, word or phrase in such radically different ways.

Is it any wonder people have difficulty communicating.
